More diversity in pool of applicants for Longview boards, commissions
Longview — Recent retiree Madolyn Scott wants to use her golden years to give back to her city.
So, this spring, she filled out the form to apply to serve on a Longview board or committee. Scott said she took the action at the prompting of a friend and the leadership of Longview’s NAACP chapter.
“I haven’t had time because I was so busy working,” said Scott, 70. “In my retirement, I am really going to try to make a difference out here in my community.”
She is among 41 residents to file applications to serve this year. Along with those who applied in 2012, the pool from which the city’s appointment committee will choose totals 63 people.
