Tyler, Texas — More female officers are entering the force in East Texas. According to the National Center of Women and Policing, having women officers on duty has its advantages.

According to research, women officers are better than their male counterparts when it comes to de-escalating violent situations.

They are also less likely to use excessive force, and according to reports they are better communicators than male officers.

Recently in East Texas there have been a growing number of women joining the peace-officers.

Studies show that increasing the female presence can improve responses to violent crimes also, women officers are proven to be easier to approach by other women who may be involved in a domestic violence situation.

KETK spoke to Tyler police officer to hear her thoughts and experiences as a female on the force, Assistant Chief Dianna Jackson tells KETK, "As a female sometimes we are able to calm a situation down more so than a male officer may be able to and it has more to do with our communication skills and I believe our ability to talk to people."
