In Los Angeles and in Philadelphia, the scene is relatively peaceful, after police cleared away the camps of anti-Wall Street protesters.

More than 1,400 officers, some in riot gear, drove protesters from a park around City Hall in Los Angeles, and arrested more than 200 who defied orders to leave. Similar raids in Philadelphia led to 52 arrests.

The police chief in Los Angeles is praising officers and protesters for their restraint.

We are being subjected to a police state where protesting is not being tolerated. These evictions exemplify the suppression of our civil liberties including the right to organize, one of the basis rights set forth by our founding fathers. Police brutality is running rampant under orders from Governors who have their pockets lined with Wall Street and Special Interest monies.
