well back ro bill now that i know who you are let me tell you who i am .im kendricks mother.and i dont agree with you making the statement young males on motorcycles get a thrill out of riding them god bless us all. my baby had the right of way before your sister turned out in front of him killing him. c hanging the lives of me his father, brother, children, fiance not to mention all his family and friends.did she mean to do it i dont know but she did and it should be conciquences if

someone is killed. i know she has to live with this every day but so do we what really makes me sick is the stupid reason any of us are even going threw all this torment.all because the comissioners of smith county seen fit to regulate the citizens lives by putting up these yellow blinking lights to control the flow of traffic not necessarley for citizens safety. that came from the mouth of justin smith the one behind putting the lights up three years ago. so after three to many senseless

deaths and who knows how many more,do we need to question ourselves whos to blame i dont think so. ACCIDENT i dont think so UN NESSARY DEATHS WAITING TO HAPPEN CERTAIN . now try to LIVE with that?thats something most of us could live WITHOUT!

Fourth Response: Young drivers versus older drivers. Statistics confirm the difference and is reflected on the insurance rates. I started driving at 13 with a valid Texas licence for which I took a written and driving test in a '31 Ford. The fee: half dollar. Although I have driven for 60 years, I am still not confident that I will not have an accident. Most young drivers, especially males on motorcycles, get a thrill of the noise and and the wind in their face "feeling." God help us!

Third Response: The traffic control conditions are considered as a erroneious decision maker. A yellow light is somewhat a temptation to beat the red one to follow. When one is driving straight, theire viison is nonot always concentrated on the objects directly in front. When a driver turns or is turning, their vision is to be concentrated on the direction of travel, from the place from whence they are coming and the view of the nfringing traffic. A "blinking" yellow arrow is worse.

Second Response: The design of a motorcyle should be carefully analysed. The rider is mounted straddling a gas tank. It is very close to the hot engine. If the tank is not ventilated pressured can build up and volitle fumes are airborne. A motorcylist view is partrially blocked by the helment designed. A 180 degree perifial view is obstructed. The dynamics of a 500lb cyle coliding with a static 3500lb vehiled is like a love bug striking a windshield. Mass X acceleration = mass destruction.

To be involved in a fatal accident is emotionally overwhelming. This is especially true if you are the suvivor and one person dies. In the case of Helen, she is my sister. She would never ever even attempt to hurt any
one. Her age has not dimenished any of her faculties. I was the driver in a fatal accident. The pedestrian to a chance and "jay walked." I ended his life but he caused it so said the police and witnesses. I have had a motorcyle wreck too, Call it a MURDERCYCLE. SEE 2ND RESPONS

This horrible accident Is tragic for everyone involved. I have found in life God finds opportunity in ever crisis of life. God holds us accountable for not only our actions but also for the things that come out of our mouths. Everyone is looking for someone to blame when the simple truth is EVERYONE of us EVERYONE has probable had a close call with a bike and if you haven’t its not “if” it’s “when” it is going to happen.

My husband rides a bike and it is scary when people are not driving defensively ALL PEOPLE, bikes or cars. Use this to talk to your young drivers parents so they are better aware. In today’s time of IPADS, IPODS, IPHONES etc. we all need be more aware and you guys on your bikes that protective gear, while it may not be the sexiest gear, was invented to protect you and there is not anything more sexy than my husband walking through our front door everyday!!

First a motorcycle rider is DEAD! I am so sick of people not giving them the same respect as a car. They have none of the protection of a car. Every rider I know rides with their lights on. This woman thought she could make it, she did the motorcycle rider did not. I think she lied in her staatement to the police. Hold these people accountable! Polygraph anyone?

First of all, for those whose said we should take the license of older people away, we will remember that when you get old. Secondly, it was an accident. Had she known that morning that a death was going to happen, I am sure she would not of got on the road. Now, who is to blame? The yellow flashing light? The old lady? How fast was the motorcycle going? If one factor of any of those had been changed we would not of writing comments about this. Be more attentive to our surroundings.

Statistically, older drivers have fewer accidents than their younger counterparts. There are more accidents incurred by people in the age range of 17-29. Maybe they should be tested every year. Or not allowed to be licensed until the age of 30.

OK so ya'll are saying we should then get rid of the yellow light to because it is in turn the exact same idea of the flashing yellow turn light. people speed to get through yellow lights and end up running the light and hitting cars, killing them too, if people would understand the RULES of the road stuff wouldn't happen as often, And not to mention people do have mis-judgments. Stop blaming it on the lights, and the engineers, who do a lot of work that ya'll do not see.

This story outrages me! The yellow blinking arrows are confusing to experienced and less experienced drivers. The comment by the city official on the news who stated the public had been well informed about the yellow arrows is ridiculous! The City of Tyler should have done psa's and other educational initiatives to inform the driving public of the use of these new traffic signals. Fliers in a water bill is not adequate education and I am appalled that they are using this as an explanation.

KLTV reported that Tyler was only the third city in Texas to use the flashing yellow arrow. The city defends their decision to use them even though at least one other deadly accident is directly related. I know myself that people have pulled-out in front of me from the turn lane as my light turned green. You have to question the motives of a city eager to "purchase" a new concept when we are the test-case and our lives are the price we pay if they are wrong.

When your young and your driving habits are hardly engrained, change is not hard to learn, but when you've been doing things the same way for fifty years, change is harder to learn. The flashing solid yellow is what has been in use for over fifty years. These newer "arrow" lights should be taken-down and replaced with the established flashing solid yellow. The "new" light is a gimmick, not well thought-out, and is used to sell traffic lights to cities where traffic commissioners get a kick-back

The flashing yellow is a big problem. Had a friend down from the DFW area a couple weeks ago. We went to the store and we encountered one of our flashing yellows. He scared me to death. He wasn't sure what to do and his driving became dangerous due to confusion. We should get rid of them. Why are we trying to fix a traffic light issue that wasn't a problem to begin with?

im from the metroplex flashing yellow means same thing over there
your post seems to imply they dont have flashing yellow lights in the dfw area
i grew up in grapevine learned to drive in dfw area i know what flashing yellow lights mean
its not a foreign country or something

Flashing yellow confuses out-of-towners and old people. I have had people stopped in the turn lane take-off and pull in front of me because light changes from red to flashing yellow. These light are more dangerous than an aid to traffic flow.

This is why the elderly should be require to take oral AND practical driving tests EVERY YEAR after 65 years old.

freaking old people, they shouldnt be allowed on the roads to begin with.

Man are you ever right!! That's why the next time I see one of them old geezers texting and driving I'm going to pull him over and use the move I learned in Viet-Nam to disarm them of their license.

Aggressive parking lot drivers are also a safety hazard in most Tyler parking lots.
Over confident, zealots in big heavy SUVs find time to ignore the rights of many other people.
Regardless, we only wish everyone the very best of happiness in life.
Sadly another motorcyclist has been killed.
