On Saturday at the Maude Cobb Activity Center, hundreds of anxious supporters stood waving American flags as they waited for the "Run for the Wall" motorcyclists to make their way to their next pit stop, Longview.

These motorcyclists had been traveling all across the country, making their way to the Veteran Memorial wall in Washington, D.C.

Veteran and event coordinator Ben Gurganus says, "There's probably about six hundred motorcycles at this point. This is a rest and refuel spot and what we do here with a number of veteran organizations such as American Legion, American Legion Riders, VFW and Vietnam veterans and then there's civic groups that help support. They stop here so they have a chance to get the bikes, get rested, get refueled."

While this ride is a time of remembrance, this journey has also been a source of healing for many veterans. Vietnam veteran Cort Stark tells KETK, "I'm going to the wall so I can visit them for the last time and say goodbye. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye, we just had time to get back out and do our job again."

This ride has also been a way for many to support those still fighting for our country. Denise Dugas, a four-year rider in the event, says, "I had a brother that served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and I have a son who is a Marine and I have a daughter that's in Navy boot camp right now."

After Saturday's pit stop the riders hit the road again, and are scheduled to reach the memorial by May 24th.

It's not enough that we support our veterans, honor their service, concern ourselves with their amelioration; we should make good their cause that their sacrifice be just. It's time we demand specific answers from our government as to why we are in a constant state of war. There were no WMD's in Iraq, they did not bomb the Trade Towers. If we truly fight a war on terrorism then, why is not Saudi Arabia our target, 7 of the hijackers were from there.
