Museum of East Texas closes temporarily for repairs
AS REPORTED IN THE LUFKIN DAILY NEWS:
The Museum of East Texas temporarily closed its doors Monday while the building undergoes a number of repairs.
“We are re-roofing the building, and we will replace the energy inefficient heating and cooling systems,” said Museum Director J.P. McDonald.
Several areas around the museum’s entrance are slated for work, including the limestone retaining walls, which will be removed or repaired. The walls, McDonald said, have sustained damaged from skateboarders. The two fountains that sit on either side of the museum’s doors will be filled.
Following two hurricanes, McDonald said, a decision was made to replace the electric security gate with a manual gate.
