The City of Nacogdoches has begun treating areas within the city limits for mosquitoes.

The Health Department is educating the public about mosquito protection and prevention, as well as looking into any complaints that have been filed.

Some Nacogdoches residents are pleased to see the city address the widespread problem of mosquitoes in the city.

“I get eaten alive when I step outside for two minutes,” said Kayli Head.

Resident Rodney Dean said he would like the city to spray for mosquitoes, but would like them to keep a schedule posted for when they will be spraying.

The Parks Department and the Public Works Department work to exterminate mosquitoes from larvae to adults and target areas of habitation, said Environmental Health Officer Tommy Wheeler in a news release.

On a weekly basis, the Parks Department will spray each of the city’s five sections during the night to reduce the existing mosquito population.

Wheeler said the spray should not present any health concerns.
