Parallels were repeatedly drawn Thursday afternoon between the grand opening of the Nacogdoches County emergency shelter/civic center and Tropical Storm Isaac sending thousands of Gulf Coast residents fleeing to the northwest seeking shelter in similar facilities.

Nacogdoches County and chamber of commerce officials hosted a ribbon cutting and open house/reception at the $6.2 million facility, funded by Hurricane Ike disaster relief funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, funneled to the Texas General Land Office, then to the Deep East Texas Council of Government and on to Nacogdoches County.
