An 11-day-old girl was flown to a hospital in Galveston after police say she appeared to be suffering from "immersion burns."

The girl was brought to a local emergency room by her father, who said he had given her a bath, according to Nacogdoches Police Department reports.

"I would say there are very serious burns over a large portion of the infant's body," NPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Greg Sowell said Thursday evening. "The infant was transferred yesterday to Galveston in very serious condition and we have not been notified of any change in that as of today."

The case is under investigation by the NPD Criminal Investigation Division and Child Protective Services has been contacted.

The incident happened in the 800 block of Jordan Street, and it was between 9:30 and 11:44 p.m. when it was reported.
