Nacogdoches, TX (KETK) — A Nacogdoches ISD transportation employee has been named the top bus driver in Texas.
Property Casualty Alliance of Texas selected NISD’s Joe Page Jr. for the honor of Texas School Bus Driver of the Year for 2012-13.
“Joe brings a unique set of skills and background to the job,” said NISD Director of Transportation Loy Walker. “He can be counted on to make excellent choices and informed decisions.”
Page will be recognized at NISD’s June 20 board meeting. The award is part of PCAT’s efforts to identify and recognize the most exceptional school bus drivers around the state.
Not only does Page gain substantial bragging rights, he finds himself a tad bit richer as well. During the board meeting, PCAT will award him with a personalized jacket and plaque, and he also receives a check for $1,000 from the PCAT for his accomplishment.
The top honor bestowed upon Page is part of a process that begins with one representative from each member district being selected to represent their district. Bus Drivers are nominated by peers, supervisors, administrators and other transportation stakeholders.
Those nominees are then evaluated based on several criteria — an analysis of their driving record and displays of leadership, perseverance, customer service, student and parent relationships, technical skill and attitude.
Several district drivers are named as recognized bus drivers, and one exceptional bus driver is chosen to represent the state as PCAT’s Texas School Bus Driver of the year.
PCAT is a non-profit risk program created by school districts, junior colleges and other related educational entities. Its members receive long-term property / casualty insurance cost savings while maintaining stability in their budgeting process.
