Nasty flu season goes easy on area schools

Schools across Northeast Texas have staunch programs in place to help prevent the spread of germs. Those efforts may be working, as schools posted relatively average amounts of absences in the first week back from the holiday break.

At Union Grove ISD, a 2A school district with 761 students in rural Upshur County, buses are being fogged with disinfectant spray twice a day.

“We always do our best to keep it a germ-free environment, but certainly during this flu season we are doing more,” Superintendent Brian Gray said.

Gray said Union Grove has ramped up precautions during flu season.

“We have our classrooms on a rotation and are fogging those every night,” he said. “We gave disinfectant to every teacher who is cleaning desks, keyboards and door handles throughout the day.”
