As part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, UT Health Northeast Police Department will be accepting unused and unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.. on Saturday, April 27 in the main lobby of the UT Health Norteast Center at the corner of U.S. 271 and Texas Highway 155.

The national event is a way for people to dispose of their unused prescription drugs. People drop their medications off at designated collection points staffed by law enforcement officers.

The purpose of the event is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of these drugs.

More than 2 million pounds of prescription medications were collected during the five previous take back days according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The Tyler Police Department will also be collecting prescription drugs from 10 .m. to 2 p.m. that same day in the parking lot of Brookshire's grocery store on 2020 Roseland Blvd. in Tyler.
