June 17th-21st is National Small Business week.

Owning your own business has been an American tradition.

Today, 28 million Americans own small businesses.

Reports show half of the nation either owns or works for a small business.

President Kennedy signed this proclamation back in 1963.

Even though, there has been a lot of changes over the past 50 years, one thing hasn't changed, the hard work of small business owners and their vital role in the economy.

"I think we should recognize them everyday single day. The real creativity and innovation comes from small businesses,"  said Chamber of Commerce President Tom Mullins.

Mullins says there is about 8000 businesses in Tyler and about 95% of them are small.

And it's growing every year.

Texas is one of the top states to start a small business.

"We started off with a little typewriter."

Exclusively Yours Advertising started in 1991.

It's a family owned business and owner DeAnn Wells says its amazing to see the growth of her business and her clients as well.

"I think in small businesses, you really have to have a passion for what your doing or it's just another job and I think that is what sustains you through the down times when you know the light at the end of the tunnel is fabulous," said Wells.

Owner of Sweet Gourmet Pam Gabriel says it's her customers that get her through the day.

"People say please don't go out of business please don't close down that is a great feeling you feel like you're really needed and wanted and loved and that makes us all feel good when we hear that," said Wells.

So what gives ? Yesterday Mr. Media Propaganda man announced a "free trade" agreement with Europe but today the market crashes in France, Germany, and England. With the Euro weak against our dollar this agreement should have them dancing in the streets and the US in panic mode. Can anyone explain ?
