Scott Williamson has been brewing beer from the comfort of his own home for eight years. Williamson owned two beer-barns in Winona and Big Sandy. However, after voters in Tyler said “yes” to beer and wine sales in 2012, his businesses shut down. "I really wanted to start another business, and I had been doing this since 2008, and beer has been my life since I started doing this." Williamson said, prompting him to continue in the beer business—in a different way.

In May of 2013 he opened his business Tyler Brewing Supply. Williamson said he was tired of ordering everything on-line so he knew he could open a store that carried all the supplies home brewers needed to get started, "I sell everything to make beer and wine at home, all the equipment and all the ingredients…I carry all the grains that you need to make pretty much any style of beer." Williamson said.

Williamson even has an emergency hotline for home brewers, "I have a 'Brewmergency' line that goes straight to my cell phone people can call and ask questions." Local brewers like T.J. Mathis say, they are thankful for a local brick and morter store like Tyler Brewing Supply, as opposed to getting all of his supplies online, “It's easier to go in and actually see the stuff that you're ‘fixing’ to get ready to put into your beer, so it's nice to have a local place to go to,” Mathis said.

Mathis and Williamson are also part of an home-brewers club, T.A.P.S., Tyler Area Pints and Suds, they meets at 5:30 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at Tyler’s Brewing Supply to “talk beer” and help beginners out with the brewing process. Anyone is welcome, and there is no membership fee to join.
