UPSHUR COUNTY, Tx (KETK) — Marvin Denison is the Pastor of Walnut Creek Baptist Church on Sego Lilly Road, a quiet street., until April 6th when authorities found 17-year-old Jacob Johnson dead from two gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities say two 14-year-old middle school students shot Johnson. Pastor Denison says the community is searching for an answer.
" When it happens so close.. In your backyard there's that sense in your heart..there's just dread...i don't even know how to describe it..you just think to yourself..why."
An affidavit released Wednesday states one of the suspects stole his grandmother's blue Saturn, the suspects drove the car to meet the victim. When they met up with him on Sego Lilly Rd., one of the teens, identified only by the nickname "Chicago" shot Johnson twice in the head, then left the scene.
Pastor Denison wishes he could have reached out to those involved beforehand.
"They went down the wrong road..they listened to the wrong voices..the voice of God is there with love and I wish i could have, or someone could have given them that."
The affidavit reveals Johnson was accompanied by a female passenger. Pastor Denison says the most heartbreaking detail in the story is a phone call Johnson made to his mom before he was killed, where he talked about that passenger.
" A young lady coming by tonight..and she's really a good person..and maybe she can get me on the right path..and the sad thing is that didn't happen.. a bullet..a decision..choices..they took that away from him."
