TYLER - Whether it's your microwave oven, hair dryer, or even your toaster, if you're an Oncor Electric customer in Tyler, you'll soon be able to see how many watts of electricity you're using.
Charles Hill with Oncor says, "What we're doing is installing new meters, and we'll start in about late March or early April in the Tyler area with a test run of five to ten thousand meters."
Anyone who buys electricity from a competitive company served from Oncor's distribution grid will have this new feature.
Companies served by Oncor include but are not limited to Reliant, TXU Energy and Green Mountain Energy.
Hill says, they'll look just like the ones customers use now and their simple to use.
"Well, there's really two ways, one way would be to go to the Oncor website that we'll have set up that will have your private information, and you'll be able to go on that website to see your daily usage. it will also tell you tell whether you had a hair dryer turned on, and it will give you a comparison between a toaster use and a microwave oven."
The cost of the meters will be $ 2.21per customer, per month.
