TYLER — President Obama is implementing the second round of fuel efficiency standards for vehicles in the past month. This time, it's for larger trucks.

The White House has got a plan it thinks will save businesses billions of dollars in fuel costs and reduce air pollution. But those in the truck business aren't too thrilled with the new standards.

"The new emissions are causing a lot of problems with the new trucks, and that's every manufacturer," said Charlie Malloy of Rush Truck Center in Tyler.

Malloy says the new standards are causing glitches in the trucks systems, therefore slowing productivity -- not to mention the higher cost to make them.

And truck drivers just don't get it.

"I don't think we need any more government regulations, especially right now the way costs are real tight," said truck driver Glenn Scott. "They're doing everything they can to make a few dollars to stay in business."

Truckers argue that manufacturers are already putting out trucks that get the best mileage they can already.

Truck driver Shane Nichols said he doesn't see these new standards having any benefit anytime soon.

"Maybe in the long term, once they get more of a system worked out. But to be honest, I don't really have a lot of faith in the federal government to do things like that."

The new fuel standards apply to vehicle model years 2014 to 2018.

One trucker we talked to said that instead of clamping down on car standards, we should work on keeping fuel costs down instead.
