New law could allow inspections of local tanning, tattoo facilities

AS REPORTED IN THE LUFKIN DAILY NEWS:
The Angelina County and Cities Health District could soon have the authority to conduct annual inspections of local body piercing, tattoo and tanning facilities.
A new ordinance, which will be an item discussion during Tuesday's Lufkin City Council meeting at 5 p.m. in City Hall, would allow the health district to enforce state regulations, said Lufkin City Manager Paul Parker.
If passed during Tuesday's meeting, the proposed ordinance would undergo a second reading before taking effect. Following the ordinance’s passage, the health district could begin conducting inspections as early as Nov. 1, according to Terry Free, director of the environmental and consumer health division at the health district.
