A new high-field open magnetic resonance imaging system at Longview Regional Medical Center will provide more ease and comfort for patients who are claustrophobic or have other issues, said MRI Supervisor Myra Copeland.

The hospital acquired the new MRI about a month ago and began using it for patients at that time, but held an official open house this past week for the public to view it.

Another advantage of the open MRI is that it allows the patient to have a family member or friend nearby during the exam.

The hospital will continue to operate its closed MRI as well, she said. There is no difference in the cost to patients for using either option.
