Six-time hot dog eating champion Takeru Kobayashi has scarfed down 68.5 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes in an all-you-can-eat showdown meant to rival Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating contest.

Kobayashi's rival Joey "Jaws" Chestnut put down 68 hot dogs and buns in the same amount of time on Wednesday at the Nathan's event in Brooklyn, New York.

It was not immediately clear whether the two competitions have similar rules that allow for half counts.
