Governor Perry says Texas High Schoolers who drop out should not get a Drivers License.

Tyler—

Governor Perry says it's good for kids to have rewards and incentives for good grades. One reason he's proposing Texas students who don't graduate high school or get their diplomas won't be able to get a driver's license.

East Texans sound-off on the idea to our news partner: KTBB.

I like Perry but this is ridiculous! Most students who drop out realize the failure of our current educational system. Why would they continue to attend an institution that, for the most part, is producing sub-standard employees? We shouldn’t punish students for dropping out we need to change the educational system and punish institutions that keep producing unprepared students. Dropouts are fine as long as they have a plan that will help them grow into productive members of society.

Maybe when he gets pulled over over day when he's forgotten his license the police dashcam video will show him once again asking the officer to just let him go along his way. The law's for little people!

Is this going to apply to Hispanics, Blacks, Orientals, Indians, and all Saudi's in the State, or just those who go to our schools? This could be a real problem!

I can see both sides of this. Both are good points. If the students do have to drop out of school because of family hardship then why not have proof of your job when you apply for a driver's license?
However, I believe that this is just election year rhetoric anyway.

I do hope that students will stay in school. The technology is changing so fast that in order to be able to get high paying jobs you have to have continuing education all of your life.
It didn't use to be that way, but it sure is now.

I like Mr. Perry but this is a dumb idea. Just what we need ; more people with no license or insurance driving, because you know they are going to. You can't fix stupid and the government should stop trying.

If this actually does pass, Gov. Perry better be prepared to also put a stipulation that they and their off spring cannot get Welfare or Medicaid as well. Without a driver's license how are they going to support themselves. Our legislatures are raising a society who is dependent on government handouts.
