A big announcement from The United States Postal Service Wednesday.

Starting August 1, it will no longer be delivering mail on Saturday.

The announcement came during a press conference by U.S. Post Master General Pat Donahue.

It's the newest action to help the struggling agency stay afloat.

"A check is mail. And some companies send their paychecks via mail," said one East Texan. "We have bills to pay. I think it's bogus."

But other East Texans were okay with the announcement.

"If it saves them money, I think it's a good idea," said one East Texas mom. "Especially if they don't raise taxes to make everybody else pay for it."

Donahue said mail to P.O. boxes will continue to be delivered on Saturday, as well as packages.

Last year, The Post Office had losses of nearly $ 16 billion.

Growing technologies have added to the pinch, as more people switch to paperless billing and online communication.

"It's not really going to bother me that much, because I do everything by email now. It's the 21st century," said one man.

The Postal Service has tried other things, like cutting hours at some offices and and merging some of its plants.

Just last month, a report estimated that by March, the agency would only have enough money to run for approximately four days.

This new move is expected to save the financially struggling agency about $2 billion a year.

"It would be irresponsible for The Postal Service not to pursue this course," Donahoe said.
