The madness is here.

But, while basketball teams take to the court, the Secretary of Education is looking at their grades.

Arne Duncan says, college basketball teams who don't graduate at least 40% of their players should be banned from the NCAA tournament.

His comments are in response to a report showing the nations top college basketball teams rank in the bottom when it comes to graduation rates.

For example, No. 1 seed Kentucky only graduates 31% of its basketball players, and Maryland only graduates about 8%.

Topping the list, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame, who have some of the higher graduation rates.

The dismal disregard for the core purpose of education when it comes to sports simply mirrors what we have allowed to happened nationally: graduating people who have not received an education. And now, with the internet and a zillion other instant media outlets, we are seeing the ignorant result: self-styled experts on everything from international defense to the Constitution. Maybe we should just throw in the towel, allow the dumb to run everything, stop classes in favor of concentrating on sports, and while we're at it let our athletes use all the steroids and other performance enhancing drugs they choose to. After all, this is all about entertainment isn't it? Bring on the gladiators!

The graduation percentage in all college sports is an absolute shame. And we wonder what is happening to our country.
