North Lufkin biomass plant now hiring
AS REPORTED IN THE LUFKIN DAILY NEWS:
Hiring is under way at a North Lufkin biomass plant that could plug into the power grid for the first time in December.
“We’re well along with construction,” said Danny Vines, president of Aspen Power. “We will be substantially completed around Dec. 15.”
Vines also hopes to have the plant synchronized with the grid on that same date. By synchronizing, the plant will have actually generated power into the grid.
Preliminary hiring has begun for the plant itself, with about 130 more positions set to become available in the plant’s fuel department in mid-November. The positions, Vines said, have an average salary of about $50,000.
No new applications are being accepted, and interviews are not set to begin for the next couple of months. Currently, the plant is working to process the 3,000-plus applications they have already received.
