Northeast Texas again attracts political spotlight

Gregg County and Northeast Texas are emerging from political obscurity of recent years, and candidates for statewide office are recognizing they need the piney woods on their side.

This past week, with the March party primaries six months out, Longview Republicans welcomed hopefuls for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and land commissioner.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott brought his gubernatorial bus to Longview for at least the second time, and local politicos revel in the fact the one-time Judson Middle School student could be the third Lone Star governor to have called Longview home.
