LINDALE, TEXAS (KETK) — Texans laced up for Lindale firefighter Joe Yeakley on Saturday, Feb.8th at the Picker's Pavilion in Lindale. The 'Not Your Average Joe' 5K Run/Walk is one of many benefits to support the Yeakley family.
Joe Yeakley still has a long fight ahead of him after being burned while battling a house fire in January. East Texas firefighters and the community continue to show support and help the Yeakley family with their expenses.
Saturday's benefit was a $25 donation, which included a t-shirt, food and drinks. Lieutenant Aaron Munn of Lindale Fire says they raised $10,000, so far they raised more than $ 40,000 through various Yeakley benefits.
"As far ad firefighter Yeakley's medical expenses, we've got insurance that covers that, what the money is for is to cover his house and car payment," sad Munn.
His fellow fire brother Munn says, this journey has been emotional for everyone. "Without him being able to work right now he is unable to get that income."
Firefighters from all over East Texas finished the run in full gear. "As firefighters we are all brothers and sisters, so when one hurts we all hurt," said Fire Chief Mike Fennell, Kilgore College Fire.
Supporters and firefighters say, every stride us for Joe, and he'll continue to be in their prayers.
