Number of animals taken in as well as kill rate drop at Longview animal shelter

Longview — New programs and new leadership at the Humane Society of Northeast Texas have led to reductions in the number of animals being received at its Longview facility — and the number euthanized.
Recent months have seen a departure from the high kill rates and other issues that led to the creation of a city task force to find new ways to handle unwanted animals, city and shelter officials said. Increasing public awareness related to the effort may also be playing a role.
