The state of Texas decided to crack down on uninsured drivers in the state in 2008.

With more than 22% of drivers uninsured during that time a new program, TexasSure, was developed to help better identify which vehicles and drivers were properly insured.

Five years later the average of uninsured drivers in the state dropped to 14% but Gregg County has remained about the state average.

In 2008 25% of drivers in Gregg County did not have the proper insurance. The rate has dropped to 16% over those five years but remains the highest for the area.
