NEW YORK (AP) - A leader of the proposed Islamic center and mosque two blocks from ground zero says dropping the plan in the face of protest is not an option.

Daisy Khan tells The Associated Press that she and other organizers of the center are closely consulting with American Muslim leaders as the plan moves forward. Khan says she realizes the uproar is affecting Muslims nationwide. The project has created a national debate over religious tolerance and the Sept. 11 attacks.

Khan said Friday she's under no pressure to change locations from the political leaders who previously expressed support. Khan and her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, say the center will promote moderate Islam. Critics say the location is insensitive to 9/11 families. Rauf is on a Mideast tour funded by the U.S. State Department.

Muslims often like to build a mosque in a place they feel they have conquered. This would seem to be the case here as they are determined on building in this spot despite public objection. The reason this differs from building a christian church is the fact that Islam is and always has been hostile toward the US government with an intent to over throw it with VIOLENT ACTION, not freedom of speech. For any group to conspire to destroy the US government is and always has been a federal crime.

Okay they want to build it. Let them build it! It can be brought down the same way the Twin Towers were! Why do they insist to build it that close and cause all this mess? Just build it some where else! No problem!

When Catholics started building a convent near the site of a concentration camp in Germany, Jewish leaders protested and the church moved the site out of respect. Why can't the Muslims do the same ? Do they lack empathy or is this a deliberate slap in the face to America?

Could be that they are building it in memory of the AMERICAN MUSLIMS that were also victims and murdered during the 911 attack.

It could... Or it could be another Muslim conquered site like they have a history of doing.

Yeah, right, what ever! That doesn't really mean much! How many of the three thousand or so were Muslins? Build it else where anyway! If you really believe that you better get informed better about the muslim Koran etc.
