President Barack Obama will make a rare visit to Capitol Hill Wednesday to meet with House and Senate Democrats ahead of the month-long summer recess, according to two Democratic congressional sources.

"He's going to discuss our shared Democratic agenda to keep moving the country forward by growing the economy, rebuilding the middle class, implementing the affordable care act and reforming our broken immigration system," one source said.

The visit comes as the president has renewed a push to focus on the economy. He traveled to Illinois, Missouri and Florida this week to reiterate that he plans to spend the rest of his second term on policies that help bolster the middle class.

Government surveillance programs could also come up for discussion. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and 153 members of Congress signed a letter to the president Friday, asking him to address concerns over civil liberties and the National Security Agency's program that gathers phone records.

The House on Wednesday narrowly defeated a proposal to restrict the program that was exposed by Edward Snowden. Some of the signatories of the letter Friday voted for that measure, while others voted against it. But they "all agree that there are lingering questions and concerns" about the program.

The president last took a trip to the other side of Pennsylvania Avenue in March, when he met with Republicans and Democrats in both chambers to primarily talk about fiscal issues.
