Obesity has become an epidemic in U.S. There has been debate for years on why obesity rates are doubling.

KETK spoke health experts who specialize in weight management, cardiology and bariatrics, they tell us that obesity has shown to be a problem in East Texas.

The state reports if Texans keep up theri current lifestyle, more than 20 million or 70%  of Texas adults might be overweight or obese by the year 2040.

KETK spoke with one doctor's office and they told us they preform more than 10 bariatric procedures a week, some patients top the scale at more than 500 pounds. Many come to their office as a last resort.

Experts tell us, the public needs to need learn more about this health crises.

The AMA reports, obesity is causes several diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. A cardiovascular surgeon at Trinity Mother Frances says, obesity affects the heart tremendously.

Experts tell us to fight obesity, it starts with your lifestyle. People need to start thinking and eating healthfully first. If people feel they are developing a weight problem they are advised to see a nutritionist or a dietitian.

More and more people are moving to Texas and they bring their fat habits with them.

Yes I am overweight myself. 5ft 8 and 185 but that is not to bad. I've seen them my height weighing 250 or more!

Eat right and exercise right, that is the key.
