Longview, TX — The city of Longview will award bids in August to re-build Green Street through the heart of the city.
The $6 million project is the second-largest of the $52.6 million street bond package passed by voters in 2011. Construction will begin in October, said city spokesman Shawn Hara.
During that time, traffic flow on Green Street will be detoured — affecting businesses from Cotton to Whaley streets.
John Etheridge, manager of Salon Pink by Ricia and Sheri on Green Street, said the business, which books customers weeks in advance, is already planning where customers will park.
“We are just going to have to deal with it. We don’t think we will have a problem in the morning, but the afternoon is another story,” Etheridge said. “A lot of our customers are from out of town, and we are booked about six weeks out, so we are hoping we will be able to tell them what to expect before their next appointment.”
