Officer involved motorcycle wreck in Tyler

A Tyler motorcycle officer was injured in a collision about 10:30 this morning at the intersection of Golden and Fifth Streets.

Officials say  the accident occurred when an SUV pulled out of an Exxon gas station in front of the motorcycle officer.

Officer J.D. Smith was headed west on 5th when he ran into the side of the SUV and flew over his handles bars.

Smith received only minor injuries to his face and was taken to a local hospital. He is expected to be released today. Officer Smith is a 37-year veteran of the Tyler Police Department. He has been assigned to the motorcycle division for 33 years.
 

The SUV driver, 34-yar-old Jason Moore Auringer of Tyler, was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way.
