Campus police officers have to change their discipline standards this year.

Starting in September, officers will no longer be able to issue Texas elementary, middle or high school students on-campus citations.

Democratic Senator Royce West from Dallas sponsored Senate Bill 393 and it passed this session.

Now, school police officers will no longer be able to give students a ticket for misbehaving at school.

Some Texas public school teachers put student's punishment in the hands of campus officers.

Until now, campus police officers had the authority to issue students citations for certain offenses.

"Our policy was if the student committed some kind of offense that was worthy of a citation or filed in court we would do that," said Jacksonville ISD Police Chief Marvin Acker.

An officer can issue a ticket for fighting with another student, damaging school property, disrupting a teacher and even chewing gum in school.

They can charge students with a Class C misdemeanor.

Students would need to appear in court and can face fines of up to $500.

There was also the risk of it appearing on their criminal records.

But, now their punishment is up to the school.

Acker says they mainly wrote citations for truancy.

So, the new law won't impact them too much.

"We didn't really file that many citations to begin with so it's not going to be that great of a change for us in the district."

Another example of thuggery in the ranks of so called law enforcement in E Texas. It has been my misfortune to have come in contact with these imbeciles who carry deadly weapons. Wake up East Texas and have thes dangerous criminals removed from our communities. In recent years, we have seen an incredible ammount of "Police Officers" S(arcasm injected) arrested and incarcerated as they well should have been. Unfortunately, our police chief should be one of them. What an insult to thise who serve.
