Officials: Lack of interest keeps East Texas voter turnout low
Less than 1 percent of Gregg County’s 65,728 registered voters took the polls Monday on the first day of early voting for the Nov. 5 election.
Sixty-seven people cast ballots Monday, including mail-in ballots, Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy said.
“We knew it was going to be low,” she said, citing reports that statewide only 2 percent of registered voters were expected to vote in this election.
Monday’s turnout represented about .1 percent of Gregg County’s registered voters.
