'Texas' was first American warship to launch an aircraft and to mount anti-aircraft guns

The Houston Chronicle is reporting; thirty-two former sailors who served aboard the USS Texas during World War II Wednesday were awarded "Patriot Medals" commissioned in honor of the vessel's 100th anniversary.

The medals were presented during ceremonies aboard the vessel, which is docked at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. The ship was launched in 1912, commissioned by the U.S. Navy on March 12, 1914 and utilized in both world wars.
