Olympic winners owe Uncle Sam

U.S. — Winning the Olympic gold also comes with a fee.
In addition to their medals, Gold winners are also given $25,000, Silver winners receive $15,000, and Bronze medalists get a $10,000 prize... which means that any American athletes bringing home an Olympic medal will also be hit with a U.S. Federal Income Tax on their winnings.
According to NBC News, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) has introduced a bill that would eliminate taxes on Olympic prizes.
Rubio, who is believed to be one of the top candidates for Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's running mate, says American athletes should be exempt from the tax, rather than be "punished" for representing our country well.
What do you think?
Is the tax reasonable, or should Olympians be an exception to the rule?
