One body found, Galveston authorities look for second
Body believed to be swimmer who went missing Tuesday
Galveston — Galveston rescuers recovered the body of a young man late Tuesday believed to be the swimmer who went missing Monday night.
U.S. Coast Guard and Galveston Island Beach Patrol officials searched for 21-year-old Michael Fasola from 7 p.m. Monday through midday Tuesday, when the effort was suspended, said beach patrol chief Peter Davis.
A bystander reported a body had washed ashore and it was recovered by authorities about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“He drifted about 4½ miles east of where he went under water,” Davis said. “He was halfway between Stewart Beach and Apfel Park.”
Searchers also are looking for another person who has drowned in Galveston, the second in less than 24 hours to be swept from swimming areas near island and into the Gulf of Mexico.
