One man in jail, another in critical condition after Tyler crash
One man is in jail and another is in the hospital in critical condition after an early-morning car crash at a Tyler intersection.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Troup Highway and Loop 323 in Tyler just after midnight.
According to witnesses, a small, four-door car driven by Casey Patterson, 23, was traveling westbound on Loop 323 in the left turn lane, preparing to turn south onto Troup Highway. As Patterson was making his left turn on a green arrow, his vehicle was struck in the passenger side by a Chevrolet truck driven by Lawrence Woodham, 24, who was traveling eastbound on Loop 323 and did not stop at a red light.
Both Patterson and Woodham were taken to ETMC by ambulance. Patterson is in critical condition. Woodham, who only suffered minor injuries, was released from the hospital just after 6:00 am and was immediately taken into custody by Tyler Police. He has been charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle. His bond has not been set.
Smith County judicial records indicate that Woodham was previously charged with driving while intoxicated on December 23, 2011.
