White Oak man killed in Rusk Co. pipeline explosion

An East Texas man died Tuesday after a natural gas pipeline explosion accident in Rusk County, just southeast of Henderson.

According to emergency management officials just before 5:00 p.m., Conner Wilson, 32, of Longview, was killed after he accidentally hit a live 12-inch pipeline while operating a mulching machine,. The contact caused the line to rupture, killing Wilson instantly.

The incident took place at Farm to Market Road 1798 East at County Road 366 and at County Road 3122. The approximate location of the explosion was between FM 840 and FM 2867.

Several residents in the area were evacuated to safety however, that evacuation has now been lifted. Traffic was shut down on 1798 from 840 to 2687 but has since reopened.

Fire officials, DPS troopers and an EMS helicopter responded to the scene.

Rusk County Justice of the Peace Jackie Risnger has ruled the death an accident.

Wilson, a husband and father of four, was a 2000 graduate of White Oak High School.
