One person is dead after a vehicle collided with a bicycle Monday night.

It happened at 6:58 p.m. near the intersection of Buchanan Street and Mobberly Avenue in Longview.

When Longview Police arrived on scene, witnesses told police that a bicycle rider had pulled out from Buchanan Street and into the path of a van owned by Willand Inc. or White Oak, Texas.

The bicyclist, Ivory Van Jackson, 53,  was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The accident is currently under investigation, but police believe that Jackson failed to yield the right-of-way to the van.

Sad story and may the Lord comfort the family. Not being mean or anything, but just when are they going to do something about bicycles on the road, they do not belong on the road they belong on the sidewalk, in the park, etc, not the roads we drive on. It is dangerous enough for cars & trucks much less a bicycle that does not have lights, turn signals, brake lights, or anything else required to drive on public roads. They need to make it illegal to ride a bicycle, golf cart, 4 wheeler, etc.
