Tyler Tx, (KETK) — What kid didn't dream about being apart of the circus? For one local teenager, this popular dream, is actually becoming his reality.
Sam Hollis is just finishing up his sophomore year at Robert E Lee high school and this summer he got the opportunity of a lifetime.Sam's dream is to be part of the circus someday, and he got an exclusive internship with one of the best youth circus' in the country Circus Smirkis, for juggling.
Since Sam was a little boy, he's always had a fascination with circuses.
"We went to Cirque du Soleil when he was 7 and we just knew. They had a water bottle that said "one day I 'm going to run away and join the circus" and we said whelp there it is! So, we bought it and there he is running way to join the circus," said Sam's mom Michele Hollis.
"I always hoped I would get into a circus one day, but it's really amazing to have this dream come true for me," said Sam Hollis.
He started out in gymnastics and slowly picked up juggling.
"I've been juggling for about 2 1/2 years now. I practiced until I got solid with three balls and I just found time to practice through the day with four and five and now I'm working on six," said Sam Hollis.
"It's fun to watch the stages, how he's developed and learned a lot of harder tricks now," said Michele Hollis.
He was looking for some summer camps, and found a youth circus up in Vermont called Circus Smirkus.
Sam had to send in an eight minute audition tape, then from there, go to a two day live audition in Burlington.
"There were a couple hundred that auditioned and about 40 were accepted to be a part of live auditions and then from there 30 were accepted to go on tour," said Sam Hollis.
Sam is one out of 30 kids in the entire world to be accepted to this summer long program.
They will be training for three weeks and from there will go on tour for seven weeks in 15 different locations and do about 70 shows.
At only 16-years-old, Sam has his heart set on joining a professional circus one day.
"It's really fun and enjoying and it's fun to perform and be in front of people and just make their days better," said Sam Hollis.
If you would like to see Sam juggle one day, he will be performing in this year's Rose Festival.
