Many East Texans feel the current debate surrounding gun control has made some think of gun holders as criminals. These East Texans decided it was time to take a stand for their second amendment rights, so they decided to hold an open carry walk.

On Saturday they peacefully walked on the sidewalks of Longview for their second  walk. They were allowed to carry rifles and shotguns, loaded or unloaded.

While many of these East Texans hope that one day they will be able to openly carry pistols, for now they just hope this walk shows others to use guns as a tool, and not a weapon.

Mike Denapas with the Open Carry Walk says, "We don't see rifles carried around anymore in public, a lot of people think there's a negative attitude toward it, we wanted to start overcoming that."

When I was a kid we would go squirrel hunting and we would have to walk along the road with our .22s for a distance to the land we hunted on. Nobody gave us a second thought. The local store would sell me .22 ammo by the bullet (yes break a box of ammo so I could buy 10 shots to hunt with.)

Deer hunters would leave their rifles in the rack of their trucks in town for all to see. Nobody minded at all.

How times have changed.
