(KETK) - Tyler Tx — This fourth of July a group of East Texans will march through downtown Tyler in an effort to.....
"Celebrate our independence and those men who fought for that independence by marching in much the manner that they did and marching with the instruments that they used to gain that independence," said Stephen Lee, one of the event organizers.
They will be openly carrying fire arms to bring awareness and attention to their self-defense rights and of course their right to bear arms.
At 10 a.m. Thursday the group will begin their march next to City Hall.
Then make a loop around the square.. and end where they started.
The organizers say the event will be family friendly and people of all ages are welcome.
"Anybody is welcome to come," Lee said. "It's a group of people who feel strongly about their individual rights and what to stand up for those rights by exercising them."
But, don't plan on bringing just any gun.
According to State Law, handguns are to never be publicly visible by anyone other than law enforcement.
"So anyone carrying a handgun in an open manner will be asked to leave," Lee said.
The guns that will be allowed at the event are a "long rifle or shotgun."
And as for loading your gun... the guns can be "loaded or unloaded, most people are going to carry their rifle or shotgun loaded. But, there are some who would chose to carry their gun unloaded."
