Operation Christmas Child
November 7, 2009 - 11:29am

TYLER-Carla Jackson with Operation Christmas Child sat down with Lindsay Landry to talk about how East Texans can help needy children around the world.

Christmas is arriving early all over Tyler, as local churches and schools prepare to serve as collection points for Operation Christmas Child. Soon, with the help of local volunteers, the sites will be brimming with festively wrapped shoe boxes full of gifts.

Through Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest Christmas project, Tyler residents are packing shoe box gifts for children in more than 100 countries suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine and poverty. From Tyler, the show box gifts will be sorted and sent using whatever means necessary-sea containers, trucks, trains, airplanes, boats, camels, even dog sleds-to reach suffering children around the world.

Operation Christmas Child uses tracking technology that allows donors to "follow your box" to the destination country where it will be hand-delivered to a child in need.

To register shoe box gifts and find out what country they are delivered to, use the EZ Give donation form found at www.samaritanspurse.org.

7 years ago, our 9 year old son, Hunter, (who loved packing shoeboxes for OCC) died suddenly. That year we sent 60 shoeboxes from the donations given in his memory. This year our church sent over 500 boxes. We travel over 900 miles every Dec. to volunteer in the processing center in Charlotte, NC.
Thank you so much for focusing on this wonderful ministry!

Thank you for airing the segment with Carla Jackson re: Operation Christmas Child. We have been involved with OCC for many years and find it to be very effective and carried out with utmost integrity. It touches so many lives in need and takes the message of Christ that has the ability to changes lives for eternity!

Thanks for highlighting the ministry of Operation Christmas Child. During a season when we are celebrating both thankfulness and giving, this is an excellent opportunity to involve our children and let them pack a shoebox for a child with less resouces and harsher living conditions. As a parent I am always looking for an opportunity to help my children practice gratitude.

I really enjoyed watching your interview with Carla Jackson. Packing shoe boxes with small toys and gifts for needy children is such a simple thing to do! All my friends and I participate in Operation Child every year by packing shoe boxes. What an awesome way to bless a child this Christmas.

Our family has been preparing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child for years here in Oregon as well. Some of our friends get letters back from children in far away places that recieve these. We are such a small world!
