TYLER-April showers being may flowers, but they also bring lots of biting bugs like mosquitoes. And this could be a particularly itchy year in East Texas.
This season you may want to stock up on the bug spray because experts say the mosquitoes are going to even worse than usual thanks to all the rain that's fallen.
Mosquito season got here quickly and Smith County alone with other counties have started a week early setting out mosquito traps. More than 1,000 briquettes have already been placed in areas with standing water.
And its not just county officials who are busy, local exterminators like Pest Punishers in Tyler started receiving calls a month earlier from people complaining about the little pests. And they tell us its never to late to have your home treated because mosquitoes are known to carry diseases like West Nile.
"Texas has the most cases of West Nile last year," owner of Pest Punishers Chad Neal said. "I think we had 119 cases in Texas alone and that makes us the leading state with West Nile."
