Panola College celebrates 65 years

CARTHAGE — Panola College turns 65 years old this week.
Thursday will be the 65th anniversary of the day Panola County residents came together to vote on the creation of the college. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor.
A book penned by East Texas author Bill O’Neal, “Panola College, 1947-97 The First Half Century,” described how Q.M. Martin, superintendent of the Carthage public schools, initiated the movement to organize a junior college for Panola County.
