It's becoming a vicious cycle in east Texas-- people not paying child support.

It was a hot topic at Tuesday's Smith County Commissioners meeting.

The county says there seems to be a revolving door of child support violators coming in and out of the jail.

It's a catch 22, and the taxpayers end up footing the bill.

Smith County is hoping to come up with a way to curb the problem, but there doesn't seem to be an easy solution.

Smith County officials say they have between 60 and 90 people in jail everyday on child support charges.

KETK also spoke with a woman who is having trouble getting her child support.

She says putting the offender in jail doesn't help her, because she still doesn't get her money.

Child support is for a car to transport your child, car insurance to protect your child, mortgage or rent for a roof over your childs head, home owners or renters insurance, food, activites and sports, child care,(which is anywhere from 110 to 150 a week) and MUCH MUCH MORE! You are obviously a deadbeat that believe in only paying the minimum.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels that way! The only ones that do are controlling buttheads that think they're Dad of the Year because they bought the kid a pair of shoes once, and maybe kept the kid the entire visit once instead of bringing them home early. I, for one, am a full-time single mom that is TIRED of PART-TIME DADS!!!!!

No person(read male) can maintain the capability to work on the $50/week that Smith County judges routinely set as the most that can be retained from wages until all child support is paid. Anyone who says they can work and support themselves independently on $200/month is lying!

They have vans at jail, let them use them. For dead beat dads or moms put them in jail. Haul him or her to work everyday, keep all their earnings until its all paid off, then release them. Some wouldn't have to stay long and others would. For the ones unemployed find them a wage law job or let them pick up enough cans on the side of the road to pay it off. Most men don't pay it because they have started taxing it and they know they will never get it paid as long as they live. Forceable WORK.

you no those idiots in the county of smith court room need to know that not ALL of the women spend all the money on the kids! and some loose the job they have when they are sentenced to childsupport then try and go back and it takes 2 years to do anything! Last time i called they told me{ sorry sire but we hire min wage people so somtimes they are slow entering the data in our system! get a clue smith county! my EX bought a damn car 2 weeks after our court hearing!

It doesn't matter what the woman spends the money on; she is the one taking care of your children! Food, clothing, shelter! And she has every right to upgrade to a better car! Just because you are paying a little bit of child support does not mean you can govern what she spends HER money on! Ugh! Weekend dads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
