Longview’s Christian leaders gathered Thursday on the footsteps of the Gregg County Courthouse with one cry between them — unity.

More than 10 pastors took to a podium to lead residents in prayer for a variety of subjects during a National Day of Prayer service, held in connection with hundreds of similar services nation wide.

“Help us, Father God, to be united in our efforts to represent you. We pray God that you give us great understanding of the need to work together as one. ... We ask God now that you would plant in our heart a desire to come together as a community,” Lamar Jones, pastor of Galilee Baptist Church, prayed near the close of the ceremony.
