There are now more than three million veterans living in the U.S. who end their military careers disabled. In Texas, it's not just the government helping those whose courage lead the country in war.
Patriot Paws is a non-profit organization that trains dogs to assist those disabled veterans. The dogs are learning up to 35 commands, including how to do laundry, pick up almost anything, and open doors.
They are recently learning to pick up prosthetic legs, which are donated by Custom Care Orthopedic Bracing. The dogs are trained to retrieve the legs and bring them to their disabled owners.
By 18 to 24 months, the dogs are ready to serve those who serve us. Veteran Pete McGaughey says, "I've seen several handicapped veterans. I know what I have to go through, and they'll appreciate those dogs."
The best news is that everything is done through volunteers and donations. If you would like to donate to Patriot Paws, go to their website at www.patriotpaws.org.

That is so great someone is doing something to help our wonderful military men and women. They should all be provided with anything they need to make their lives happy and easier. Thanks to all our veterans and to those who are on active duty. I have a son in the Marines who is getting ready to ship out to Afghanistan. I pray that all are men and women fighting for our country stay safe and protected. Semper Fi
